HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research Solomon Greene Leads U.S. Delegation to United Nations Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya

PDAS Greene to Deliver National Statement on Behalf of HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) for Policy Development and Research Solomon Greene will lead the U.S. Government delegation to the United Nations (UN) Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya from June 5th to 9th. The delegation includes officials from the U.S. Department of State, representatives of national, regional, and local governments, academics, businesspeople, community leaders, and urban planners.

The convening is intended to commit to a sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises. PDAS Solomon Greene will give the National Statement during the UN-Habitat Assembly. In addition, HUD, in partnership with the University of Chicago, will host a panel discussion exploring models of community driven-transformation and urban regeneration. The program will feature new ideas, tools, and best practices including community-driven planning fostered by the Choice Neighborhoods program; the Million Neighborhoods Initiative; Community Research on Climate and Urban Science; the Safe Water Initiative in Kenya; and the UN-Habitat Urban Regeneration Flagship Programme.

"It is an honor to participate in the 2023 UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi as we work with global partners to set a path forward for prosperity, growth, and equal opportunity," said HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Solomon Greene. "I look forward to engaging with our partners in person to discuss both our shared challenges and goals, and to further strengthen our bonds. I am glad to be part of this delegation to send an important message to the global community, affirming the role of the U.S. leadership in promoting good governance and comprehensive approaches to housing and urban development issues. It is my hope that the result of this UN-Habitat Assembly will validate the significance and urgency to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable."

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination, and poverty.

The UN-Habitat Assembly is a universal body composed of the 193 member states of the United Nations and convenes every four years.
