On Wednesday (18), the Federal Supreme Court (STF) hosted the launch of the updated collection "Themes of Procedural Law", which brings together nine books by Professor José Carlos Barbosa Moreira (1931-2017). The work, written over three decades, has now been reissued in an updated version by scholars of procedural law, including Justices Luís Roberto Barroso, president of the STF, and Luiz Fux. The event was held at the Biblioteca Ministro Victor Nunes Leal and was also attended by Justices Cristiano Zanin and Marco Aurélio (retired).

Reference

Barbosa Moreira is considered one of the greatest exponents of Brazilian procedural law and has become a reference in the training of many generations of jurists in Brazil, Latin America and Europe. Former students of Barbosa Moreira at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Justices Barroso and Fux recalled, with good humor, aspects of the great master's personality and how his teachings marked their careers.

According to Barroso, Barbosa Moreira was an extraordinary professor and an exemplary jurist, of enormous academic and scientific seriousness, as well as a great friend. Fux thanked the coordinators for their work in relaunching the collection, as it is a classic work that deserves to be read and reread.

Coordination

The collection is coordinated by the vice-president of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF2), Aluisio Mendes, federal judge Luiz Paulo da Silva Araújo Filho and Carlos Roberto Barbosa Moreira, a lawyer and the author's son. The re-edition kept the original text intact. At the end of each study, comments have been made by the editors, who provide data on the evolution of Brazilian law on the subject.

Update

Carlos Roberto Barbosa Moreira said that the family was initially opposed to updating the work, which would inevitably have been overtaken by the new Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) of 2015. However, the interest of the Brazilian Institute of Procedural Law in updating the nine volumes culminated in the manifestations of important jurists interested in updating some volumes.
