City Clears Golf Course Liquor License; Denies Guard Rail Bids

City Clears Golf Course Liquor License

PIERRE, S.D. - At their May 14 meeting, the Pierre City Commission took further action to allow alcohol sales at the city owned golf course and denied bids for a guard rail project along Fourth Street.

LIQUOR SALES

The clubhouse at Hillsview Public Golf Course is a couple of steps closer to having liquor on its menu.

At the Tuesday meeting, the commission held a public hearing, approved the liquor license, and approved a liquor operating agreement for the clubhouse.

"I'll submit these documents to the South Dakota Department of Revenue," said City Finance Director Lacey Walz. "Once they process them, the clubhouse will be allowed to purchase the liquor and sales can begin."

Walz expects the liquor service at the clubhouse to begin around June 1.

The availability of liquor sales at the clubhouse was made possible by a legislative change in 2023 to allow on-sale licenses at municipal venues.

GUARD RAILS

The city will take another run at building guardrails around electrical infrastructure later this year.

"We want to better protect some of the transmission poles and electrical switches along highly traveled streets," said Brad Palmer, City Utilities Director. "But the bid we received to complete the project this summer is just too high. It won't work with our budget."

Palmer is hopeful that bidding the project at a later date when contractors aren't quite as busy will produce more favorable results.
