Kawailoa Road Drainage Improvements Project set to begin next week

KAILUA - The public is advised that work will be done to the drainage system on Kawailoa Road, Alāla Road, and Mokulua Drive in the vicinity of Kailua Beach Park and in the park as well. The project will begin the week of July 18th and is expected to be completed in July of 2023.

The project will include grading, tree removal, trenching, concrete drain culvert installation, sidewalk installation, paving, rip rap installation and grassing.

Work hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Portions of the parking lot will be shut down while work is being done in the area. No Parking signs will be posted one week prior to construction in the area. The existing asphalt sidewalk on the ocean side of Alāla Road will be removed and replaced with a concrete sidewalk. During that time traffic will be contra flowed on Alāla Road. Certain portions of the bike path in the park will be shut down and detour signs will be posted. Motorist and pedestrians are advised to observe all construction signs and use caution while in the area and should expect delays.
