SR 89A closed Thursday night (Aug. 10) in upper Oak Creek Canyon

Drivers can detour along I-17 during overnight closures for highway work

SEDONA - State Route 89A will be closed in both directions Thursday night, Aug. 10, near the switchbacks in upper Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona for ongoing highway improvement work.

Drivers should be prepared to use a detour route, primarily I-17, while the following SR 89A closures are in place:

  • SR 89A closed in both directions between the Cave Springs Campground(Milepost 386) and the Oak Creek Vista Overlook, south of Flagstaff, from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11.

Detours: Drivers in Sedona can use southbound SR 179 to northbound I-17 to reach Flagstaff. Drivers in Flagstaff can use southbound I-17 to northbound SR 179 to reach Sedona.

The SR 89A improvement project includes rockfall containment, erosion mitigation and bridge rehabilitation work in areas between Sedona and the Oak Creek Vista Viewpoint. For more information visit azdot.gov/SR89A.
