Local Development Plan Process Kicks off in Stromness

An event is being held in Stromness next week which will kickstart the Orkney Local Development Plan review process.

The review of Orkney's Local Development Plan will help to shape the future of Orkney's towns, villages and rural areas, including where development should and shouldn't happen.

A series of events are to be held across Orkney to allow local folk to feed into this process - and Stromness is the first of these.

The Council's Development and Marine Planning Team are currently in the evidence gathering stage of the process and the meetings will provide an opportunity for the public, key stakeholders, and landowners to come along and understand the review process and provide their early ideas and thoughts for the future of their local area - and Orkney as a whole.

Councillor David Dawson is Chair of the Council's Development and Infrastructure Committee. He said: "The Orkney Local Development Plan is a hugely important document for our islands, that details areas that require to be protected for their value and areas for new development to meet our social, economic and housing needs.

"The input of our communities is vital to this process and the team are currently working on putting together a series of meetings in which we'll gather these views. The first of these is taking place in Stromness.

"Throughout the review process there will be even more opportunities for stakeholders and the public to engage with and comment on the plan as it begins to evolve.

"Pop in and see the team in the Warehouse Buildings and let them know your thoughts and ideas for Stromness and Orkney as a whole."

The Stromness drop-in event takes place on 25th April 2024 at the Warehouse Buildings between 10am and 6pm.
