Walz Named City Finance Director

Lacey Walz is the City of Pierre's new Finance Director. She will officially assume the role on Wednesday, May 1. Walz has served as the City's Deputy Finance Director since 2019.

"Lacey has been a steady hand as second in command of the business office for the last five years," said Pierre Mayor Steve Harding. "I'm pleased to offer her this promotion and even more pleased she has accepted it."

Prior to working for the City of Pierre, Walz worked as an Accounting Analyst for the South Dakota Bureau of Finance and Management.

"The city is a great place to work; we have a great team," said Walz. "I'm very much looking forward to continuing my career here and the new responsibilities that come with the new role."

As Finance Director, Walz will serve on the city's senior staff team overseeing a staff of five employees, as well as all financial management operations including managing the city's financial resources, budget development, accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, and city elections.

Walz received a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of South Dakota and is a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
