City partners with MG2 to host exhibition at City Hall

In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the City of Bellevue and MG2 will present an art exhibition showcasing the diverse talents and narratives of artists with AANHPI roots and connections to the Pacific Northwest. Artworks from 15 artists use colors, textures and stories to illuminate the unique cultural legacies and experiences of AANHPI peoples.

The exhibition, curated by Mami Shimiomura of Mami Shimiomura Fine Art, will be on display May 6-31 on the City Hall concourse, accessible on weekdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The community is invited to attend an opening reception, featuring taiko drumming and a lion dance, on Monday, May 8, 6-8 p.m., in the City Hall concourse. Registration is required.

"It's important that we take the time to celebrate each other," said Dr. Linda Whitehead, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer. "The month of May encourages us all to take the time to honor and celebrate the many contributions and accomplishments of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders."

The reception is presented by Cloudvue, GOBO, MG2, Engel & Volkers, Amazon and Wells Fargo.

Recognition of AANHPI Heritage Month will also include a proclamation read at the May 7 City Council meeting.
