Guadalupe Mountains National Park to Begin Phased Reopening

Salt Flat, Texas - Effective Wednesday June 29, the following areas of Guadalupe Mountains National Park are open for day use:

  • All trails in the Guadalupe Mountains Wilderness, including all the following trails: Bear Canyon, Bowl, Blue Ridge, Bush Mountain, El Capitan, Foothills, Frijole, Juniper, Marcus, McKittrick Canyon, Permian Reef, Smith Spring, and Tejas.

  • The popular Guadalupe Peak, Devil's Hall, and Pinery trails in the Pine Springs area remain open for day use.

  • The Pine Springs Campground and the group campsite at Frijole Horse Corral Campground are open and reservable through www.recreation.gov

  • The Pine Springs Visitor Center is open daily. The McKittrick Canyon and Frijole Ranch roads and trailheads are now open regular hours.

The Dog Canyon developed area, including the Indian Meadow Nature Trail and the Dog Canyon Campground, remain closed. At this time, overnight Wilderness camping permits will not be issued, and the park's Wilderness campsites remain closed. Although the park has received a limited amount of rain in recent weeks, fire danger remains high, especially with the prevalence of lightning strikes occurring during afternoon and evening storms. Visitors are reminded that open flame, including campfires, charcoal or wood grills, portable fire pits and chimneys, and fireworks, are strictly prohibited throughout Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
