From L-R: HFC astronomy students Cortney Rinehart and Anthony Preston are NASA Eclipse Ambassadors. They will host three information sessions about the total solar eclipse that will be visible across North America, particularly in Michigan, on April 8.

Atotal solar eclipse, sometimes called the Great North American Eclipse, will occur Monday, April 8, and will be visible across North America. Those of us in Southeast Michigan are in the 90% viewing range.

To seize this incredibly rare opportunity, HFC astronomy students and NASA Eclipse Ambassadors Anthony Preston and Cortney Rinehart will host drop-in information sessions about the Great North American Eclipse:

Preston and Rinehart will provide information about the eclipse and distribute pairs of solar eclipse viewing glasses so you can safely maximize you enjoyment of this phenomenon. This eclipse is the final total solar eclipse that will be seen over North American until 2044.

"I'm very excited at the idea of bringing more astronomy-related information to the population of our campus here at HFC," said Preston. "We are in a very unique position for this total solar eclipse, being within the 90% viewing range and just a brief drive from the path of totality! I think this will be a wonderful opportunity for the HFC student body to come together and witness this spectacular astrophysical event."

The information sessions are free and open to the public -- as is the eclipse itself! For questions or more information, contact Jesse Mason at [email protected].
