Ride KC Celebrates 1st Year of Adopt-a-Stop Program

(Kansas City, Mo., April 29, 2024) - The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) and partners are taking an active role in improving Kansas City communities with the RideKC Adopt-A-Stop program which kicked off one year ago on Earth Day. The first organization to step up was Ruby Jean's Juicery at 31st Street and Troost Avenue. Now, there are 13 partners in the Adopt-A-Stop program.

Members who adopt a stop are responsible for picking up litter at "their" adopted stop at least once a week, or as needed to maintain the bus stop's aesthetic condition. In exchange, participants will receive a sign at the bus stop with the individual's or organization's name recognizing their volunteer work.

"We work with great community partners that help support the public transportation system," said Frank White, III, president & CEO of KCATA. "Everyone benefits from their efforts to make bus stops cleaner, safer and more accessible."

KCATA is making strides for greener, cleaner public transportation in a variety of ways:

Expanding the volunteer-led Adopt-a-Stop program to 13 participating partners who help keep transit stops litter-free.

Expanding its fleet of low- and no-emission vehicles. 60% of the fleet is currently Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). There are currently three battery electric buses with more to be ordered.

Modernizing the bus system and installing electric charging infrastructure.
