Assembly celebrates city officials and cities

By Cal Cities Communications Staff

Assembly lawmakers joined Asm. Blanca Pacheco last week in proclaiming April 14-20 as "California Cities Week." The resolution encouraged all Californians to get involved in their communities and engage with their local government.

Pacheco, a former Cal Cities board member, noted that although cities may differ wildly from each other, they all share a commitment to public service and their communities. When people go to a park, drive on roads, visit the library, or call 911, that is local government at work.

The former Downey mayor was joined on the floor by Carolyn Coleman, Cal Cities executive director and CEO, along with Cal Cities Board Officers Daniel Parra (Fowler, mayor), Gabe Quinto, (El Cerrito, council member), and Ali Sajjad Taj (Artesia, mayor pro tem).

An overwhelming majority of the Assembly's 80 members signed on as coauthors, including Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas. The resolution aligned with the City Leaders Summit, a three-day advocacy and education event at the Capitol.
