Statement from Justice Minister Cameron Friesen on National Policing Week

May 9, 2021

Today marks the beginning of National Police Week, and this year the theme is 'Working together to keep our communities safe.' We are proud to be a partner in public safety. Our government believes that public safety is a collaborative effort and the success of our police services depend on community partners and stakeholders.

Our government would like to thank the women, men, and all who make up our police services. Thank you to the various municipal police agencies, First Nations police, provincial officers, and civilian members who all who serve to protect Manitobans.

Manitoba's police services continue to strive to represent, evolve and best provide for the safety and health of their communities. We are proud of the professionals who manage the risks of crime, mental illness, addiction and much more to directly affect the health and safety of Manitobans.

Policing in Manitoba is evolving to adapt to calls for change. Our government recognizes that community engagement and proactive crime prevention are imperative for true partnerships and successful policing services.

Our government supports the police services in Manitoba as they create and strengthen relationships with community partners. Thank you for your service. We are proud to celebrate all policing services in Manitoba on National Policing Week.
