Poet Laureate Pre-Submission Workshop

Every two years the City of Olympia selects a Poet Laureate to engage our entire community in the literary arts. Olympia's take on the position of Poet Laureate is less an honorary title and more about service over status. Duties include promoting poetry as an art form, expanding access to the literary arts, and encouraging poetry as a community voice that contributes to a sense of place. Olympia's next Poet Laureate will be called specifically to utilize the power of poetry and language to contribute to thoughtful response and centering around our environment and climate change.
  • Deadline for Receipt of Submissions 11:45 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023.
  • Two-year appointment.
  • $2,000 stipend per year.
  • All practicing poets, over the age of 18, who live or work in the city of Olympia are invited to apply.

Emerald City Music Presents Windsync

Featuring a World Premiere by GRAMMY-nominated Flutist and Composer Nathalie Joachim Plus the Northwest Premiere of Miguel Del Aguila's Quinteto Sinfonico

Emerald City Music is thrilled to welcome Windsync back to its Seattle and Olympia stages for the first time since the chamber ensemble's ECM debut on the opening night of Season 01. The award-winning quintet will perform their Gardens and Galaxies program, which features an array of vibrant and imaginative works, including the commission of Stumble, Fall, Fly -- a new wind quintet by GRAMMY-nominated flutist/composer Nathalie Joachim. Primarily commissioned by ECM, the work is co-commissioned with Schneider Concerts at The New School and ECM is receiving the world-premiere.

Olympia Poetry Network: March 15 Featured Poet and Open Mic

Featured poet: Ronda Piszk Broatch is the author of Chaos Theory for Beginners (MoonPath Press, 2023), and Lake of Fallen Constellations, (MoonPath Press). She is the recipient of an Artist Trust GAP Grant. Ronda's journal publications include Greensboro Review, Blackbird, Sycamore Review, Missouri Review, Palette Poetry, and NPR News / KUOW's All Things Considered. She is a graduate student working toward her MFA at Pacific Lutheran University's Rainier Writing Workshop.

Local well-loved watercolor artist, Jane King, celebrates 90th at The Artists' Gallery
The Artists' Gallery hosts local watercolor artist Jane King in April as guest artist and throws a 90th birthday celebration.

The Artists' Gallery announces very special guest artist Jane King during the month of April. King, a well-known and loved watercolor artist and teacher, spent 34 years as an active member of The Artists' Gallery. Friends and community members are invited to welcome King back for the month of April as a guest artist and for a special 90th birthday reception on April 14, 2023.

Jane's work has won many awards, has been acknowledged nationally, and is in many fine collections across America and the world. She has been a prolific artist for more than 60 years. Not only was Jane a member of The Artists' Gallery in Olympia for 34 years, she also has taught drawing at Ben Franklin, watercolor classes at the Senior Citizen Centers and, is still an active member of the Olympia Art League.

Jane King's watercolors of local Olympia scenery will be featured during the month of April. Collectors, new and old alike, will want to come see this special showing of Jane's work.
  • A reception and 90th birthday celebration will be April 14 from 11 AM to 2 PM.

  • Friends, students, and community members are all welcome to enjoy refreshments, music, and fine art of course.
