Exhibition in Ilha Solteira HPP tells the story of one of the most important hydroelectric plants in Brazil

Permanent exhibition also allows visitors to explore the universe of energy generation in a playful and interactive way

CTG Brasil, one of the leaders in clean energy generation in the country, opened this Thursday a permanent exhibition at the Ilha Solteira Hydropower Plant that tells the story of one of the largest and most important plants in the country.

In addition to revisiting the history of the plant - which celebrated 50 years of operation in 2023 - the public who visits the exhibition will be able to learn, in a playful and interactive way, how the process of generating electricity works.

At the exhibition, visitors will be able, for example, to leaf through a giant book that tells the story of the construction of the hydroelectric plant. It will also be possible to "learn through play" about words and terms linked to the universe of energy generation, on a rotating panel, or generate real energy, pedaling an exercise bike.

The exhibition also brings together safety equipment used by workers at the time of the plant's inauguration and brings interesting facts such as the extent of the dam, the capacity of the reservoir and the amount of concrete used in the work - around 3.6 million m³.

"In addition to its 50 years of operation, visitors will be able to learn about innovation projects and the largest modernization program in the national electricity sector, as well as the importance that the Ilha Solteira Hydroelectric Plant has for the country and its contribution to energy generation clean and renewable", says Luis Lisboa Humphreys, Business Performance Manager at CTG Brasil.

The exhibition has been carefully designed to be a fun, interactive experience for all ages. Families, students, groups of friends and anyone interested in learning more about clean energy and the history of the Ilha Solteira Plant are welcome", he adds.

Visiting Program

The exhibition is one of the attractions of the CTG Brasil Visits Program for the Ilha Solteira Hydroelectric Plant. Visitation is free, but must be scheduled in advance, via [email protected].

Guided tours take place from Tuesday to Thursday for students and groups of up to 50 people, always at 9am and 2pm. On Fridays we have tourist visits, also at 9am and 2pm. It is worth noting that the minimum age is 7 years old and it is mandatory to wear closed shoes, long pants and a t-shirt with sleeves.

Aboute the HPP

Located on the Paraná River, between the municipalities of Ilha Solteira and Selvíria, and with an installed capacity of 3,444 MW, the Ilha Solteira Hydroelectric Plant, together with HPP Jupiá, makes up the fourth largest hydroelectric complex in Brazil.

From the beginning of its construction, in 1968, until the first generating unit came into operation, in 1973, thousands of workers from different parts of the country were moved to the region, forming the village that would give rise to the Ilha Solteira Tourist Resort. The name of the plant, in fact, is a reference to the islet located downstream of the dam, in the Paraná River.

Modernization

Ilha Solteira and Jupiá are also the protagonists of the largest modernization project in the history of the Brazilian electricity sector, with an estimated investment of R$3 billion. Also last year, CTG Brasil inaugurated its new Generation Operation Center (COG) at HPP Ilha Solteira, the brain from which the 12 hydroelectric plants and two small hydroelectric plants managed by the company are remotely monitored and controlled, totaling 70 generating units.
