The artwork Sky Partition by Patrizio Travagli unveiled in Berlin

The artwork Sky Partition, a site-specific installation by Florentine artist Patrizio Travagli, was exhibited at the Italian Embassy in Berlin. The project draws its inspiration from the Ishtar Gate, housed at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, and enjoys the cooperation of Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (SMB), the German state body collecting the capital's museums.

The installation consists of custom-made blue-glazed ceramic bricks designed and produced in Florence by the artist. It reproduces the colours of the sky above the Tuscan city at the beginning of the year, implying a geometric organisation.

Having graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in 1993, Travagli has shown its artworks in museums, galleries, exhibitions and public spaces in Europe, the Middle East and the United States and has participated in several art biennials from Venice to Paris to Cairo. His most recent works have developed around the study of light applied to different materials such as bronze and, in this piece, ceramics.

The work was presented during a conversation between the artist and Martin Maischberger, Deputy Director of the SMB's collection of ancient art, attended by some 30 selected representatives of the Berlin museum system, Berlin gallery owners and German and Italian collectors.

"It will be a cultural exchange in the truest and deepest sense; it will take place between two people who look at an object each with their own eyes, through the personal lens of their discipline," Ambassador Armando Varricchio explained. "A process that will trigger a multi-voiced dialogue between history, archaeology and contemporary art, between classical roots and what is born from them today".
