Fiesta Del Sol, Ed Sheeran Concert, Chinatown Summer Fair and Many More Neighborhood Events Top the Chicago Weekend Activities Amidst Extreme Heat
The City of Chicago's summer activities continue throughout the numerous neighborhoods this weekend and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) is reminding everyone to be prepared for street closures and detours relating to the many events, heat and possible storms, along with increased large crowds at major events and city beaches and pools. Public safety is paramount. Remember to be aware of your surroundings, report suspicious activity/objects to 9-1-1 and know evacuation paths, if needed
A Heat Advisory for the City of Chicago has been issued for Friday, July 28 noon until 9 p.m. Excessive heat or extreme conditions can lead to unhealthy impacts - especially over a duration of time. OEMC will monitor weather conditions and events and deploy resources as needed. Everyone is urged to stay hydrated, stay in air-conditioning if possible or take advantage of the city's cooling centers.
Report Suspicious Activity: If You See Something, Say Something®. OEMCreminds the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity - especially in large gatherings. If you notice something suspicious - person, activity, object - notify onsite security or call 9-1-1. If You See Something, Say Something™ is a national anti-terrorism public awareness campaign that emphasizes the importance of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities. Although the City has not received actionable threats, the Department of Homeland Security released an advisory on May 24, 2023 - National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin. DHS emphasizes the continued heightened threat environment across the United States. It notes that "lone offenders and small groups motivated by a range of ideological beliefs and personal grievances continue to pose a persistent threat to the United States."

Over 70,000 fans are expected to attend the concert for "The Mathematics Tour" with special guests. As a reminder, Balbo Drive from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Jackson Drive from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive is closed for Lollapalooza which begins next week. Additional street closures on Columbus from Monroe to Roosevelt will begin Monday, July 31, 8 p.m. through Monday, August 7; Northbound center lanes on Columbus from 13thStreet to Roosevelt Road will also be closed on Monday, July 31 at 8 p.m.
