Great news as almost all Nottinghamshire families offered a preferred primary school

Tuesday, 16 April 2024

Today, national offer day, Nottinghamshire County Council has contacted thousands of families about their child's reception or year 3 primary school place for September, with almost all being offered their preferred school.

This year more than 95% of Nottinghamshire children were offered their parents' first preference school for a reception place this September (2024). That is 7,783 out of a total 8,138 that applied on time for a reception school place, with 99% securing a place in one of their preferred schools.

Nottinghamshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Councillor Sam Smith, said "I'm really pleased that most children in Nottinghamshire have secured a place at one of their parents' preferred primary schools for September this year.

"The council is committed to planning for enough school places across the county and has previously provided new primary schools as part of its sufficiency strategy in Bingham, East Leake and Netherfield. The new primary school, Whipman Woods Flying High Academy in Gateford, Worksop is also set to open in September this year.

"With more than 95 per cent of families being offered their first preference and the vast majority being offered one of their preferences, this is great news for families in Nottinghamshire.

"I'd encourage families to visit our website, where parents will be able to find factsheets with all the information they need about what happens next."

Parents who applied on time using the online portal were able to log on to their account to view the outcome from midnight on offer day, 16 April. All other parents who provided an email address, will be sent an email from 8.30am.

All parents who did not provide an email address should expect to receive their outcome by second class post. Those who are happy with the school place they have been offered have until Tuesday, 30 April to accept their offer.

Parents who were not offered their first preference school are advised to view the information on the Nottinghamshire County Council website, for more information on the school admissions process, including details on how to appeal.
