His Majesty's appointment, succeeding his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, marks the continuation of a longstanding relationship between us and the Royal Family.

We have never been more needed. And with His Majesty's support, we can do more than ever before in our fight against heart and circulatory disease.

The King's patronage highlights the power of research to save and improve lives and our shared belief in the tremendous impact of scientific discovery and lifesaving cardiovascular research.

Our Chief Executive, Dr Charmaine Griffiths, said of the appointment: ""It is an absolute privilege to welcome His Majesty the King as our Royal Patron. His Majesty's commitment to the BHF reflects our proud heritage of over six decades funding groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives.

"I'm tremendously proud to have His Majesty's support as the BHF looks ahead to the next chapter - tackling heart health inequalities, getting heart disease at the top of the political agenda, funding lifesaving research, and saving more lives than ever before."

As we welcome His Majesty as our new Patron, we also pay tribute to the extraordinary contributions of Prince Philip, whose unwavering support for us inspired countless individuals to join us in our fight against heart and circulatory disease.

During his incredible 60 years as our Patron, Prince Philip helped to shine a light on the vital need to fund research into heart and circulatory diseases. He was a steadfast presence as we made significant progress in helping to save and improve the lives of millions of people with heart conditions, and was a passionate supporter for our work, advocating for the creation of nine of our funded centres of excellence in the 1970s and opening a cutting-edge medical research centre at the University of Edinburgh in 2010.

The appointment of His Majesty as our new Patron not only demonstrates a shared commitment to improving cardiovascular health for all, but also honours the legacy of Prince Philip's dedicated service to our cause.
