Grant Roundup: Senator Murkowski Announces Federal Grants Heading to Alaska

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced the following grants to organizations, tribal entities, and communities in Alaska:

Statewide

  • Alaska-Statewide: $8 million to the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Program.
  • Alaska-Statewide: $2.8 million to the State of Alaska from the U.S. Department of Education for the Fund for Improvement of Education (FIE).
  • Alaska-Statewide: $2.8 million to the Association of Alaska School Boards from the U.S. Department of Education Full Service Community Schools Program for the Southeast Alaska Full Service Community Schools: A Strong Start for Southeast Alaskan Students project.
  • Alaska-Statewide: $1 million to the Alaska U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for strengthening STD prevention.
  • Alaska-Statewide: $576,066 to the State of Alaska Department of Health from the U.S. Department of Justice for the State of Alaska's Division of Juvenile Justice.
  • Alaska-Statewide: $89,865 to the State of Alaska Division of Agriculture from the U.S Department of Agriculture Plant Pest and Disease Management and Disaster Prevention Program for the AK PPA Asian Defoliator Survey.

Aleutian Islands

  • Unalaska: $1.1 million to the Iliuliuk Family and Health Services from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Center Cluster Program.
  • Eastern Aleutian Tribes: $125,853 to the Eastern Aleutian Tribes, Inc. from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians.

Bering Strait

  • King Island: $10,104 to the King Island Native Community from the U.S. Department of Transportation Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF) to develop the Tribe's first transportation safety plan.
  • Nome: $732,141 to the Norton Sound Health Corporation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians.
  • Nome: $175,000 to Kawerak, Inc. from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to develop the Tribe's first transportation safety plan and update 17 existing transportation safety plans.
  • Nome: $15,000 The Native Village of Council from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to update the Tribe's transportation safety plan.
  • Unalakleet: $857,202 to the Bering Straits School District from the U.S. Department of Education School-Based Mental Health Grant Program to hire additional licensed mental health providers in schools.

Interior

  • Dot Lake: $2,500 to the Village of Dot Lake from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to develop the Tribe's first transportation safety plan.
  • Fairbanks: $137,135 to the University of Alaska Fairbanks from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "RII Track-4: NSF: Source fingerprinting of mercury isotopes in thermokarst lake systems."
  • Fairbanks: $1 million to the Dena'Nena' Henash from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians.
  • Fairbanks: $39,100 to the University of Alaska Fairbanks from the U.S Department of Agriculture Plant Pest and Disease Management and Disaster Prevention Program for the first detector training and engagement in Alaska.
  • Huslia: $48,000 to the Huslia Village from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF for the Huslia streetlight illumination project.
  • Venetie: $10,000 to the Village of Venetie from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to update the Tribe's first transportation safety plan.
  • Fairbanks: $69.7 million to Fort Wainwright from the Department of Defense for the design and construction of a barracks at Fort Wainwright.

Northwest

  • Kotzebue: $711,279 to the Northwest Arctic Borough School District from the U.S. Department of Education School-Based Mental Health Grant Program to hire additional licensed mental health providers in schools.
  • Kotzebue: $729,665 to the Maniilaq Association from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide preventative and ongoing care for the diabetic and pre-diabetic patients in the 12 communities of the Maniilaq service area.
  • Point Hope: $2,500 to the Native Village of Point Hope from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to update the Tribe's transportation safety plan.

North Slope

  • Utqiagvik: $360,270 to the Arctic Slope Native Association from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI).
  • Deering: $10,000 to the Native Village of Deering from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to update the Tribe's transportation safety plan.
  • Kivalina: $10,000 to the Native Village of Kivalina from U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to update the Tribe's transportation safety plan.
  • Utqiagvik: $45,000 Inupiat Community of the Arctic Slope from the U.S. Department of Transportation TTPSF to develop a regional transportation and update current safety plans.

Southcentral

  • Anchorage: $9.3 million to the Municipality of Anchorage from U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency for emergency protective measures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Anchorage: $6.1 million to the Alaska Pacific University from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency for repairs to the Thomas Nordic Training Center following severe earthquake damages.
  • Anchorage: $737,000 to the Alaska Ocean Observing System from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for enhancing data sharing and integration.
  • Anchorage: $305,684 to the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Special Diabetes Program.
  • Anchorage: $2.1 million to the Anchorage School District from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Anchorage School District Comprehensive School Mental Health Systems.

  • Haines: $5.5 million to the Alaska Department of Transportation Southcoast Region from FEMA for the road repairs on Lutak Road following severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides.

  • Bethel: $1.8 million to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for a special diabetes program.
  • Chevak: $125,000 to the Chevak Native Village from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Indian Environmental General Assistance Program for capacity building to develop, administer, and implement environmental programs.
  • Dillingham: $498,323 to the Dillingham City School District from the U.S. Department of Education for the Fund for the Improvement of Education.
  • Dillingham: $577,100 to the Dillingham City School District from the U.S. Department of Education School-Based Mental Health Grant Program, to hire additional licensed mental health providers in schools.
