SAVANNAH, GA - On Saturday April 6, 2024, Fort Pulaski National Monument will continue hundredth anniversary celebrations with Siege Day, a day of programming and cannon firings commemorating the 162nd anniversary of the Battle of Fort Pulaski.

Join park staff on Saturday April 6, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a day of programs centered on the siege and battle of Fort Pulaski. Free fort tours will run from the Fort Pulaski National Monument Visitor Center (101 Fort Pulaski Road, Savannah GA 31410) beginning at 10:00 AM and continuing throughout the day. Cannon demonstrations will also take place inside of Fort Pulaski. Standard entry fees to Fort Pulaski National Monument will apply on April 6, 2024.

Built originally by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to defend the port of Savannah, Fort Pulaski became the site of a pathbreaking wartime experiment during the American Civil War. A 30-hour bombardment, beginning on April 10, 1862, allowed United States Army troops on Tybee Island to use a variety of artillery, including rifled cannon, to breach Fort Pulaski's thick masonry walls, walls that were previously considered impenetrable.

Fort Pulaski National Monument is located on U.S. Highway 80, 15 miles east of Savannah. For more information, please call the visitor center during business hours at 912-219-4233, email e-mail us, visit the park website at www.nps.gov/fopu, or follow on Facebook at www.facebook.com/FortPulaskiNPS.
