One lane closing Monday on OR 213
in Mulino for tree removal
On Monday, flaggers will control traffic OR 213 near South Eldorado Road in Mulino where an ancient landslide caused cracks to open in the road. Flagging will begin at 4 a.m. and continue through the evening.
Traffic will travel in the southbound lane as crews will remove trees alongside the highway that have become hazards as the landslide has moved.
ODOT expects restoration of traffic to one lane in each direction when the hazard trees have been removed.
Cracks started appearing in the road in March 2016 after record rains. The road, ODOT soon learned, had been built on an ancient landslide. ODOT checks the road daily and monitors instruments installed in the road to monitor movement. ODOT does not expect to close the road but is ready to take all necessary steps, including closure, to ensure public safety.
Crews are installing drains that will draw water from under the road. About 40 drains are planned and, when installed and the road safety is confirmed, ODOT will complete final repairs and fully open the road.Public Meeting Set for Tuesday Feb. 13
To talk to ODOT about this landslide, the public is invited to drop by the OR 213 at South Union Mills Road Safety Improvements projectopen house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 13. The open house will be held at Arrowhead Golf Club in the Payne's Stewart Room, 28301 Cascade Highway, Molalla, OR 97038.
