WHAT
The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to welcome Words of a Warrior Productions as they host the first poetry slam of its kind, "The Gods and Goddesses Poetry Slam: A National Competition" in the Rockford region. The event features 16 of the top slam poets in the nation visiting from IL, TN, MD, KY, MO, MI, AL and OH.
WHEN
Saturday, October 23, 2021, Doors open at 6 p.m., Slam begins at 7 p.m.
WHERE
The Nordlof Center, 118 North Main Street, Rockford, IL 61101
WHY
There will be four rounds, three cash prizes and one grand prize of $2,000. National Award Winning Poets and some of the top slam poets in the nation will compete for the grand prize.

Words of a Warrior Productions company is owned by Dianna Tyler, nationally known as Goddess Warrior The Poet. Goddess is the 2021 Chicago Music Awards Best Spoken Word Artist of the year and a 2021 National Award Winning Poet. She is also the creator and host of this first annual national competition that is to take place in her resident city of Rockford, IL.

Poetry slams are a form of spoken-word art that combines performance, writing, competition, and audience participation. The name slam came from how the audience has the power to express their reactions to the poem during the high-energy performances. They originated in 1980 in Illinois.
