4 March 2024

Mr Bambang WIJAYANTO, Head of Aviation Meteorology Operational Management of the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) of the Republic of Indonesia, led a delegation of three to visit the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) from 21 to 22 February 2024. During the visit, both parties showcased their latest advancements in aviation weather services, particularly in windshear and turbulence warning service. They also explored the opportunities for further collaboration on aviation weather services.

The delegation visited the Central Forecasting Office at HKO Headquarters, the Airport Meteorological Office and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) systems located at the Hong Kong International Airport, and the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) at Brothers Point. Through this visit, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of the Observatory's aviation weather services, which would facilitate further technical exchanges between the two sides in the future.
