A Message from the Belvedere Police Department: Scam Alert

The Belvedere Police Department has become aware of a recent scam, wherein the caller identifies himself as a police sergeant and reports that you owe money for missed jury duty (or something similar).

This is a scam. The scammers goal is to make you feel anxious.

If you ever feel anxious during a phone call, hang up. Then call the Belvedere Police Department:

Please Remember:

- The Belvedere Police Department will never ask you for money over the phone.

- The courts will never ask you for money over the phone.

Tips to Avoid Scammers:

Tip #1 - If you don't recognize the phone number, don't answer.

Tip #2 -If the person leaves you a message with their number, don't call the number they provided; verify the phone number, through your independent research, the business or department from which they claim to have called.

Tip #3: Never pay anyone money over the phone.
