After a national recruiting effort and detailed screening of a number of potential candidates, Lauren Prieur has been selected as director of the Transportation & Public Works Department for the City of Fort Worth.

Prieur is a registered professional engineer with more than 15 years' experience in infrastructure development, capital project delivery, transportation and public works-related projects.

"We have been pleased and impressed by her leadership, her ability to build partnerships and her consistent reliability in delivering and improving projects and services for our residents," said Assistant City Manager William Johnson, who oversees the department. "During her stint as interim director, she has proven over and over again that she not only deserves this opportunity, but she is absolutely up for the challenge. We look forward to her continued growth and leadership as head of our TPW team, and to her leadership within our communities."

She has worked with the City of Fort Worth since February 2018, serving as TPW senior capital projects officer-pavement management administrator and, later, as assistant director of capital delivery. She has been interim TPW director since August 2022.

Before joining the City of Fort Worth, she worked on major projects and programs with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans and Fort Worth.

Prieur holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and a master of public administration degree from UT-Arlington.

"I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the director of Transportation & Public Works," Prieur said Friday. "I will lead our team with strategic patience and tactical urgency. As a department, we will strive for challenging goals while maintaining our high standards and position as leaders within the public works profession and key contributors to the growth of Fort Worth."

Her appointment is effective March 11.
