07/14/2023 Central German Airports Leipzig/Halle Airport Dresden Airport Pressemitteilung
Demand for flights at the Central German airports continued to grow during the first six months of the year - especially for tourist flights. More passengers passed through both Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airports than in the previous year. The demand for air travel to Spain, Turkey and Egypt was particularly strong.
Overall, 1,254,393 passengers passed through Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports, 39.1 percent more than in the comparative period in 2022.
The number of passengers at Dresden Airport increased to a figure of 405,527 between January and June 2023. This represents an increase of 23.3 percent in comparison with the same period in the previous year.
Passenger numbers also increased at Leipzig/Halle Airport, which is dominated by holiday traffic, by 48.2 percent to a figure of 848,866 during the same period.
In terms of the situation prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, passenger numbers at the Central German airports during the first half of 2023 represented about 68 percent of the figure registered in 2019. This is partly due to the number of flights available, which is still limited, and the continuing low demand for German domestic operations. This development, which is being felt across Germany, reflects a trend that is well below the average figure elsewhere in Europe.
