Sandburg Sing-alongs Begin in August

Flat Rock, NC - Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site will offer monthly Sandburg Sing-alongs beginning in August. The Sing-alongs celebrate the Sandburg family's love of music and singing. Musicians will lead the audience in familiar songs, with lyrics provided. Sing-alongs will be held in the park's amphitheater and are free and open to the public.

Due to COVID19 considerations, audience size will be limited to 100 visitors. Please maintain social distancing from people not in your group.The Sing-alongs will be held on the following dates: Tuesday, August 10 from 5-6:30 pm; Tuesday, September 14, from 5-6:30pm; and Sunday, October 17, from 3-4:30pm. The October Sing-along will be held on the 53rd Anniversary of Carl Sandburg Home NHS. The park shuttle will operate from the front lake bridge shuttle stop to the amphitheater for the Sing-alongs.

On August 10, Tom Fisch, will lead the Sing-along. Tom is a guitar player, song writer, producer, and overall lover of music. Tom has lived in western North Carolina for over fifteen years and uses the Blue Ridge Mountains for inspiration. He enjoys traveling and performing at colleges, clubs, coffeehouses, festivals, and fairs. Wherever he performs, audiences connect with the warm, appealing style, diverse range of material, and talent this seasoned performer brings to the stage.

Restrooms and a water bottle filling station are available near the main parking lot. Due to ongoing issues with a water pump, the restrooms and water bottle filling station near the Sandburg Home are closed, however portable toilets are available nearby. Visitors are asked to bring their own drinking water.

Park grounds and trails are open sunrise to sunset. The park store and visitor information area are open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm, in the garage behind the Sandburg Home. Outdoor access to the goats (in the barnyard and goat pasture) is from 10 am to 3pm daily. The Sandburg Home and house tours remain closed due to ventilation concerns in the 183-year-old house.

Consistent with CDC recommendations, Visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask inside all park buildings. Visitors who are not yet fully vaccinated must continue to wear masks in crowded outdoor spaces.

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, located in Flat Rock, NC, is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Due to COVID-19, some visitor services are limited. For park updates and all parking options visit www.nps.gov/carl.
