"With Prof. Georg Nemetschek, we are honoring a true pioneer who recognized the importance of software for the construction industry as early as the 1960s," says TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann. "He not only built up a world-leading software company in the construction sector but also led an entire industry into the digital future. His commitment, innovative strength, and passion for progress make him a role model for us all. His generous support, especially through the Nemetschek Innovation Foundation, enables us to drive forward cutting-edge research in the field of artificial intelligence for the building world."

Georg Nemetschek was born in 1934 and laid the foundation for his impressive career by studying civil engineering at TUM. As early as the 1960s, he recognized the potential of software solutions and founded his own engineering office in 1963, which quickly developed into a leading company for construction software. Today, the Nemetschek Group is one of the world's leading software solutions providers for the construction industry.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Georg Nemetschek has been committed to promoting young talent for decades. He taught as a professor at Munich University of Applied Sciences and placed particular emphasis on the practical training of his students.

Nemetschek has already received numerous awards for his life's work, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2020, he also established the Nemetschek Innovation Foundation, which supports TUM with a generous donation of up to 50 million euros over ten years to establish the TUM Georg Nemetschek Institute - AI for the Built World. "The generous support of Prof. Nemetschek and his foundation is a powerful signal for future research at TUM. The funding provides new impetus for the combination of computer science and building sciences and makes an important contribution to the future-oriented support of our students and the sustainable design of buildings and infrastructures," emphasized President Hofmann.

With the appointment as Honorary Senator, TUM is not only recognizing Nemetschek's entrepreneurial successes but also his close ties to his alma mater and his many years of commitment to science and society. "His impressive career and tireless commitment are an inspiration for future generations of students and a source of joy for the entire university community," said Hofmann.
