The police and crime commissioner has responsibility for governing Lancashire Constabulary and holding its chief constable to account.

Three candidates are standing for election as the police and crime commissioner for Lancashire. They are:

• Neil Darby, Liberal Democrats
• Clive Grunshaw, Labour Party
• Andrew Snowden, Conservative Party

Police and crime commissioner elections previously used the supplementary vote system, where voters could choose a first and second choice candidate.

But now you will choose a single candidate in the 'first past the post' system used in parliamentary and local elections.

And if you intend voting in person there are numerous forms of acceptable ID, including passports, driving licences and bus passes, and you are even able to use expired ID if you are recognisable from the photo.

If you can't get to the polling station due to a last-minute emergency you can ask someone you trust to vote for you.

Applications to vote by proxy on the grounds of an emergency - such as a medical emergency, being called away for work or your photo-ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged - can be made until 5pm on polling day.

Polling takes place from 7am to 10pm and a list of polling stations, including information on accessibility, is available at ribblevalley.gov.uk.
