City of Carmel announces
the 2024 Road Construction Schedule
CARMEL, IN - The City of Carmel is pleased to provide the following anticipated schedule for the 2024 construction season (see image below). These projects include new roundabouts, road improvements, storm water collection and a continued effort to increase bicycle and pedestrian connectivity throughout the City.
Below is a summary of three highlighted projects that will continue their construction phase as 2023 concludes.
3rd Avenue SW Reconstruction
There will be continued work on this project as water main and storm water collection systems are being installed below grade and utility coordination continues throughout the construction limits. Temporary asphalt was installed at the north end of the project to stabilize the road. The Engineering department is pleased to report that schedules are allowing for construction to progress through the winter months, and, barring inclement weather, the project will move forward with an anticipated completion date of Fall 2024.
Main Street - Guilford Road to Old Meridian Street
Starting on, or after, January 15, underground infrastructure work will begin on west Main Street between Guilford Road and Old Meridian. This project will involve improving the water main down the center of the roadway to increase water capacity and service in the area and adding storm water collection infrastructure to the right-of-way. There will be a full closure of this section of the road for duration of the project which is estimated at 6 - 8 weeks.
North College Avenue Reconstruction
The construction phase of the North College Avenue reconstruction project is set to begin Spring 2024 with a projected completion anticipated in the Summer of 2025. This project brings major improvements to the North College Avenue stretch of road from 96th Street to 106th Street including storm water collection infrastructure, pedestrian connectivity, beautifully landscaped medians, and safer streets for the motoring public. It is anticipated that one-way, limited closures will be applied to maintain traffic for the public as construction continues. Specific plans for these partial closures are being finalized and will be made available once complete.
