Telephone call between Federal Chancellor Scholz and the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia al Sudani

Federal Chancellor Scholz spoke on the phone today with the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia al Sudani.

The Federal Chancellor and the Prime Minister agreed that it was essential to prevent the conflict between Israel and Hamas from spreading across the region. The Federal Chancellor drew attention once more to the clear warning from the German Government that no regional player should seek to intervene in this conflict with the intention of destabilising the situation.

Federal Chancellor Scholz also reaffirmed that Germany was working intensively for the protection of civilians, as well as for continuous and safe access of humanitarian assistance for people in the Gaza Strip. He went on to say that the German Government had increased its humanitarian assistance for the Gaza Strip.

The Federal Chancellor and the Prime Minister also talked about the good bilateral relations between their countries. The Federal Chancellor assured the Prime Minister that Iraq would continue to receive support from Germany with its reforms, economic development as well as its efforts to tackle the effects of climate change.
