HCA Florida North Florida Hospital is proud to announce that our perfusion team has been honored with the American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology - AmSECT Pillar Award. This award is given to an institution that has achieved the highest standards in quality, patient safety and process improvements in the area of perfusion. Only two adult perfusion programs in the country have received this honor, and HCA Florida North Florida Hospital was the only center in the southeast United States to receive it.

HCA Florida North Florida Hospital's perfusion team provides support for all forms of cardiac surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and general surgical procedures, such as the Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) procedure. During open heart surgery, perfusionists use a heart and lung machine to maintain the patient's circulation while the surgeon is repairing the patient's cardiac dysfunction.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious award. It is based on years of process improvements, and a dedication to perfecting our craft, striving to promote safe patient care and improved outcomes for those in our community," said Mark Martin, Director of Perfusion Services at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital.

Congratulations to our perfusion team on this tremendous accomplishment and for your constant efforts to improve care for our patients. Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
