Including 30% Discount to Educators Through September 6; Announces Additional Savings for Everyone Preparing for the New Academic Year

As back-to-school preparations begin ahead of the upcoming academic year, Dollar General will be starting the journey right alongside them. From its customers and employees to the communities it serves in more than 17,000 locations, education is a cornerstone of our culture and our focus on literacy and education transcends throughout our business.

Dollar General is excited to announce discounts to help educators and parents save on items for the upcoming school year, including:
  • Teacher Discount
Now through September 6, 2021, Dollar General will provide teachers with a 30% discount on qualifying, in-store purchases of back to school and stationery items*. Teachers may take advantage of this promotion by registering and completing an educator verification process online here, then add the discount as a Digital Coupon within the Dollar General App or on the Dollar General website for each transaction. To apply the discount at checkout, simply enter the phone number associated with your Dollar General digital coupon account on the pin pad at the register.

*Qualifying purchases include pens, pencils, markers, crayons, paper, notebooks, scissors, binders, folders, glue, rulers, backpacks and lunch kits. The coupon should be available in the user's DG Digital Coupon account approximately 24-48 hours after verification. Limit one use per day, up to four uses during the promotional period of July 11 through September 6, 2021.
  • Digital Coupon Savings
Shoppers can download a DG Digital Coupon to save $2 when you spend $10 on school supplies during the appreciation event. The Company also offers an on-going $5 off $25 DG Digital Coupon, available every Saturday.
  • Ways to Save
    • Start Early: Consider checking school supplies off your list in the weeks ahead to help avoid any last-minute stress. Whether starting fresh or filling in the gaps from the previous school year's supply, you can find binders, folders, pens, pencils, paper, crayons, scissors and other items at affordable prices at more than 17,000 Dollar General stores across the country.

With convenient locations and buy-online-pickup-in-store options through the DG smartphone app, it can be easy to make a quick trip and stock up.
    • Switch to Private Brands: Also, consider switching to Dollar General's private brands, most of which come with a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee.

Dollar General's commitment to literacy and education is rooted its co-founder, J.L. Turner. After dropping out of school at 11 to help support his family, Turner was functionally illiterate. Yet, he strived to learn something new from everyone he met. In 1993, his grandson and then-CEO Cal Turner, Jr. founded the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to honor his grandfather and support education initiatives. For the past 28 years, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has given nearly $200 million to improve more than 14 million people's lives through literacy.

During the back-to-school season, Dollar General's mission of Serving Others is more than two words. It's an embodiment of the Company's culture and representation of our commitment to literacy and education.
