Argentina’s accession to OECD: First inter-ministerial coordination meeting

Today, Foreign Minister Mondino presided over the first inter-ministerial coordination meeting with officials of different agencies of the Executive Branch involved in Argentina's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The meeting was attended by officials of the Office of the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers; the Ministries of Economy, the Interior, Justice, Human Capital, and Health; and the Executive Branch's Auditing Office.

During the meeting, the political significance of moving forward with the accession process was highlighted, as this process aims at strengthening Argentina's integration into the global scenario and is a tool to legitimize and deepen the political, economic and cultural reforms that are necessary for the country's development.

On 11 December 2023, the Argentine President sent a message accepting the invitation to join the organisation, which constituted Argentina's first step towards becoming a full member of OECD. The next step will take place on 2 May, when the OECD Ministerial Council will present the Roadmap for our country's accession. From that moment on, a new path will begin, one that will require the efforts and coordination of all the Ministries to draft the Initial Memorandum.

This document is the starting point for the technical analysis process, during which Argentina will draw up a work plan and establish a timeframe for reforming its legislation and developing policies in line with the OECD's requirements. In addition, this will enable Argentina to formally and promptly adhere to a significant number of OECD instruments.

OECD Members set their priorities, visions and shared values in the 60th Anniversary Vision Statement, to which Argentina adheres, as it feels part of a community of shared ideas regarding the principles of open and transparent market economy, subject to the commitment to safeguard individual freedom, democratic values, the rule of law and the defence of human rights.
