TO THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

TO ATTEND THE 28TH CONFERENCE OF PARTIES TO THE UNITED NATIONS

FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE (COP28)

His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj have consented to undertake a Special Visit to the United Arab Emirates from 29 November to 4 December 2023 in conjunction with the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). The COP28 will take place from 30 November until 12 December 2023 in Dubai.

Their Majesties are accompanied by The Regent of Pahang His Royal Highness Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. The Royal Entourage also comprises Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry The Honourable Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change The Honourable Tuan Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Chief Minister of Pahang The Honourable Dato' Sri Haji Wan Rosdy bin Wan Ismail, as well as senior government officials.

During this Special Visit, His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah is scheduled to attend the World Climate Action Summit and High-Level Segment for Heads of State and Government. His Majesty The King has also consented to launch the Malaysian Pavilion and grace a ceremony of exchange of documents involving Malaysian companies and their counterparts on the sidelines of COP28.

His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah has also consented to confer the highest honorary awards to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and members of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi.

His Majesty The King and His Highness The President of the United Arab Emirates will also grace a ceremony of exchange of documents relating to USD8 billion investment by Masdar in renewable energy in Malaysia. This follows the signing of MOU by MIDA and Masdar which was witnessed by YAB Prime Minister during his visit to the United Arab Emirates on 5-6 October 2023.

The United Arab Emirates is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner, export destination, and import source in West Asia. Malaysia's total trade with the United Arab Emirates was recorded at RM38.73 billion (USD8.79 billion) in 2022, an increase of 73.5% from RM22.23 billion (USD5.39 billion) recorded in the preceding year.
