Board Changes at the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore 2023

1. The Ministry of Law (MinLaw) today announced board appointment changes at the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). These appointments will take effect from 1 April 2023.

Appointment of New Board Members

2. MinLaw has appointed the following new members to the Board of IPOS.

·       Mr Harsha Basnayake, Asia-Pacific Deputy Area Managing Partner, Ernst & Young

·       Mr Oliver Tan, CEO and Co-Founder, Visenze Pte Ltd

Reappointment of Chairman and Existing Members

3. The following individuals have been reappointed.

·      Mr Stanley Lai, Partner and Head of Intellectual Property Practice, Allen & Gledhill LLP - as Chairman of the Board

·      Mr Nicky Tan, Chief Executive Officer, nTan Corporate Advisory Pte Ltd

·       Mr Tan Pei-En, Divisional Director (Planning), Ministry of Education

·      Mr Ted Tan, Enterprise Fellow, Enterprise Singapore

·      Mr Calvin Phua, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Law

Out-going Board Members

4. The following members will be stepping down on 31 March 2023, upon the completion of their current term of office. MinLaw and IPOS would like to extend our appreciation to them for their dedication, contribution and service.

Annex A: New Board Members

Mr Harsha Basnayake

Asia-Pacific Deputy Area Managing Partner, Ernst & Young

Mr Harsha Basnayake is Ernst & Young's Deputy Area Managing Partner for the Asia-Pacific Area. He is responsible for expanding the service offerings, operations, investments and financial impact of the firm's businesses across the area. Prior to his current role, he was the Asia-Pacific Area Strategy and Transaction (formerly known as Transaction Advisory Services) Managing Partner and led a team of over 5,000 professionals and approximately 500 partners that specialise in strategy, deals, operations, restructuring and transaction tax competencies in over 20 countries in the region. He holds a number of professional affiliations and was the immediate past Chairman of the Council of the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers of Singapore (IVAS).

Mr Oliver Tan

CEO and Co-Founder, Visenze Pte Ltd

Mr Oliver Tan is the CEO and Co-Founder of Visenze Pte Ltd, an artificial intelligence company specialising in retail. Prior to Visenze, he led business development and partnerships in a cyber-security start-up for five years, and also served in leading Asian enterprises across corporate development to digital transformation roles. He has been a member of the Forbes Technology Council since 2017, and has contributed over 40 commentaries on artificial intelligence, retail transformation and tech innovation. Oliver is also a member of the Artificial Intelligence Technical Committee (AITC), Information Technology Standards Committee (ITSC), and previously served as a member of the Future Economy Council (FEC) Modern Services Sub-Committee from 2018 - 2019.
