Harris County…The Quick Response team is on hand to install a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) that will be added to State Route 1 and Cotton Street

Harris County - Work will begin this week at State Route 1 and Cotton Street to install a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB). The beacon should be installed by March.

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) A marked crosswalk or pedestrian warning sign can improve safety for pedestrians crossing the road. To enhance pedestrian conspicuity and increase driver awareness at uncontrolled, marked crosswalks, An RRFB can be installed to accompany a pedestrian warning sign. RRFBs consist of two, rectangular-shaped yellow indications, each with a light-emitting diode (LED)-array-based light source. RRFBs flash with an alternating high frequency when activated to enhance the conspicuity of pedestrians at the crossing to drivers. The RRFBs can reduce ped vs vehicle crashes by 47%. RRFBs can increase motorist yielding rates up to 98%.

Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through the area. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the free Georgia 511 app.
