PRESS RELEASE – The National University of Samoa signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment.
Apia, Samoa - May 7th, 2024
The National University of Samoa (NUS) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to solidify our partnership in the areas of research, development, and training.
The MOU outlines the cooperation and support between the Ministry and NUS in various fields, including botanical studies, climate change, disaster management, biodiversity, and more.
Both parties aim to share knowledge, resources, and information to enhance sustainable development practices and environmental conservation efforts for the mutual benefit of Samoa and our people.
Key provisions of the MOU include the exchange of researchers, faculty staff, and students, joint research projects, technical assistance, and the sponsorship of symposia and conferences on topics of mutual interest. In addition, any work created or invented by either party will be jointly owned if produced collaboratively.
Professor Tuifuisa'a Patila Amosa, Vice-Chancellor and President of the National University of Samoa and Afioga Lealaisalanoa Frances Brown-Reupena, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, expressed their commitment to the partnership and the shared goal of improving the quality of life for all Samoans through sustainable resource management practices.
Overall, this partnership marks a significant step towards sustainable development and the management of Samoa's natural resources and environment.
The collaboration between the NUS and MNRE is expected to enhance research capabilities enhancing research capabilities, knowledge sharing and expertise in key environmental areas.
