W Glen Avenue set to close July 5 for major reconstruction project

[Link]W Glen Avenue between N Sheridan Road and Knoxville Avenue will be closed until the end of the year

Beginning Tuesday, July 5, W Glen Avenue between N Sheridan Road and Knoxville Avenue WILL BE CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC for the Glen Avenue reconstruction project.

This complete closure of W Glen Avenue is scheduled to last until the end of the year and is necessary for the reconstruction of the roadway and storm sewer installation.

Thru traffic should follow the marked detour on Lake Avenue. There will be no outlet through W Glen Avenue. Drivers should watch for "Road Closed Ahead" and "No Outlet" signs, as neighborhood roads will have limited access while work is being completed.

Residents in these areas will be able to access their neighborhoods from Knoxville Avenue or Sheridan Road. Glen Avenue and Glencrest neighborhood property owners will have local access via Glen Avenue. Access to businesses on the North side of this segment of Glen Avenue will be from N Sheridan Road.

As the Glen Avenue reconstruction project begins, the City of Peoria Department of Public Works would like to remind everyone to:

  • Avoid the area as much as possible while work is being completed.
  • Remember that cut-thru neighborhood routes should not be attempted as roads will lead to no outlets.
  • Be mindful of workers, take an overabundance of caution, and slow down in these areas.
  • Contact the Department of Public Works at 309-494-8800 for concerns about the project.

This major road reconstruction project is a joint County and City project. This project is vital in improving infrastructure. The public's patience while this project is underway is appreciated.
