The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Wednesday April 24th to discuss the UNCRPD and justice.
The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 17:30-20:30.
The following representatives are due to appear:
Representatives from The Courts Service, Angela Denning, Chief Executive Officer & Tom Ward, Assistant Secretary, Superior Courts Operations Directorate
Representatives from An Garda Síochána, Padraic Jones, Chief Superintendent, Garda National Community Engagement Bureau, Seán Fallon, Superintendent & Pauline Glennon, Sergeant
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: "We look forward to discussing how people with disabilities can access justice on an equal basis with everyone else."
"The prevention of harm and protection of vulnerable people is a key component of policing and justice."
"disability rights are sometimes seen as unrelated to enforcing the law, protecting the rights of those who have suffered injury or trauma; victims of crime, those with disabilities and those suspected of wrongdoing helps ensure a just outcome for all."
