Geisinger highlights the importance of organ donation during the month of April

DANVILLE, Pa. -
During the first two weeks of April, several Geisinger hospitals held flag-raising events to promote awareness of the importance of organ donation.

"We've been able to provide hundreds of patients with second chances through liver and kidney transplants thanks to living and deceased donors," said Michael Marvin, MD, chair of the Geisinger Department of Transplantation and Liver Surgery. "We take this time to raise a flag in honor of these donors and their family members who made the decision to become organ donors. There aren't words for what their selfless act means to so many in our community."

Staff, community members and patients participated in the ceremonies at Geisinger Medical Center, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Community Medical Center.

Flag raisings are held each April during National Donate Life Month, which promotes awareness about the importance of organ donation.
