Sixth form students garner their entrepreneurial spirit at Generation Innovation Impact Day

Sixth form students from Lisneal College and St Mary's College have learned more about an exciting new work experience programme and received training on developing an innovation focused mindset and other skills at a special event at The Playhouse in Derry.

The Generation Innovation Impact Day was an opportunity for the young people to learn more the innovative work experience programme which begins in June and will 200 students with household business names such as Bank of Ireland, Ernst and Young, Aveva, Allstate and PwC.

The Go Succeed Outreach event was facilitated by the Catalyst Generation Innovation Team and was aimed at students interested in accelerating their career development, gaining awareness of the skills needed for tomorrow's world and learning how to build an innovation mindset through Design Thinking training.

Ally Armstrong, Generation Innovation Programme Manager at Catalyst, explained more about the initiative.

"Generation Innovation aims to inform, upskill and empower the young people of this generation to thrive as the next leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs of the future," she said.

"This work experience programme is a unique opportunity for young people to challenge their minds in a new way and start building an innovation mindset.

"I would encourage anyone interested, regardless of background to apply to this programme if they have an interest in innovation, and gaining a real working experience with some of the most exciting companies in NI."

Maria McKeever, DCSDC Business Officer, said:

"The Generation Innovation Impact Day event is a novel programme with a great track record in nurturing young talent and entrepreneurial spirit.

"Today we heard innovative solutions from our students who presented inclusive sustainable business solutions back to their peers with confidence and enthusiasm.

"The Business Team in DCSDC are delighted to have supported the event again this year.

"200 young people from Derry and Strabane will participate in the Generation Innovation Work Experience Programme in June, and I encourage our young people to grasp the opportunity.
