The first away match of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season will take Borussia Dortmund to Werder Bremen. Kick-off on the Weser is at 15:30 CEST on Saturday. Two players will be unavailable.
BVB have made a successful start to the current campaign. The Black & Yellows followed up their 4-1 triumph against Phönix Lübeck in the DFB-Pokal with a 2-0 home victory against Eintracht Frankfurt on Bundesliga Matchday 1. \"There's room for improvement both offensively and defensively, but that's not surprising for me. We're developing and we're a tad further along this week too,\" said BVB coach Nuri Sahin when he was asked about the laboured start to the Bundesliga season. \"We've analysed the match criticially and want to show our football on the pitch for 90 minutes and not only in spells.\"
\nThat is what Borussia want to do next time out in their away game against Werder Bremen. For Sahin, it represents a return to an ex-club: the now BVB coach plied his trade on the Weser from 2018 to 2020. \"I had two great years there,\" he said, adding: \"Bremen are a top club. The first year was top in a sporting sense, both for me and for the club too. We had a lot of injuries and sporting problems in the second year. But there are great people at the club that I'm still in contact with. I'm looking forward to a reunion.\"
\nOle Werner's team have started the current campaign with a cup triumph away to Energie Cottbus and a draw at FC Augsburg. \"They are a team that are well-versed and that have had the same coach for a long time already. Bremen's procedures are clear,\" said Sahin, who is expecting an opponent \"that will want to keep the three points at their stadium\".

On Dortmund's side, Yan Couto will be out of action with a minor injury. He will not link up with the Brazil national team squad for the international break that follows the Bremen game either. Sahin is hoping that the left-back will be able to return to training in the week leading up to the game against Heidenheim (13/9). Serhou Guirassy has already completed parts of team training again this week. The striker is increasing his workload on a daily basis so that he can hopefully be reintegrated into the matchday squad after the international break.
