Advancing Decarbonization and Clean Energy Goals in Asia: A Q&A with Tanmay Bishnoi

Transitioning to net zero emissions is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. But how do we find the right pathways to emissions reduction, decarbonization, energy transition and a net zero future? Tanmay Bishnoi, our Asia decarbonization strategy lead, is helping our clients in Asia explore and uncover innovative pathways to realizing their decarbonization and clean energy goals.

An engineer turned management consultant, Tanmay has extensive experience delivering decarbonization, clean energy solutions and renewable energy consulting services for clients in Asia, the Middle East, the U.S. and Europe.

Let's get to know Tanmay, his view on the biggest challenges facing global decarbonization efforts and more in this feature:

Hi Tanmay! Can you tell us a bit about your role and what are you most passionate about?

In my role, I help to realize our clients' decarbonization and clean energy ambitions. I work with teammates across the globe to define what's possible for our clients in areas such as sustainable finance, decarbonization pathways and climate action, ultimately becoming their trusted advisor as they progress down the path to net zero.

I'm passionate about new and emerging clean energy technologies and developing innovative pathways towards emissions reduction, decarbonization, energy transition and a net zero future.

Tell us more about your career background. What sparked your interest in a STEAM career in decarbonization?

My background is fairly diverse and includes aspects of business strategy and operations, entrepreneurship and developing new solutions for complex business challenges - all of which are translatable to program management. I draw on more than 14 years of experience delivering decarbonization, clean energy solutions and renewable energy consulting services working with clients across Asia, the Middle East, the U.S. and Europe. My core focus has been on advising clients on strategy, feasibility analysis, policy and regulatory advice, market assessment, scale up operations, net zero pathways and solutions associated with emission reduction and energy transition.

I love problem-solving, so I became an engineer and then moved on to become a management consultant, providing strategic and innovative clean technology solutions to the most complex challenges facing the planet. I've been interested in sustainability and the clean energy sector ever since 2002 to help support the environment and reduce carbon emissions.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing global decarbonization efforts?

One of the biggest challenges to decarbonization is consumer awareness and understanding that there are many pathways to reduce emissions and achieve net zero. Without understanding the range of options available, it can be difficult to capture the right mix of solutions to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
