Helados Mexico Minis Ice Cream Variety Pack recalled over Salmonella concerns

Tropicale Foods is voluntarily recalling its Helados Mexico Minis Ice Cream Variety Pack because the mango bars have the potential to be contaminated by Salmonella, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency's food safety office sent April 1.

Salmonella can be potentially life-threatening, especially to infants, older people, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. It can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella's most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Salmonella's symptoms usually develop between eight to 72 hours after consumption of the contaminated food and last about four to seven days.

The Defense Commissary Agency's Health and Safety Directorate has publicized this recall to all its stores. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.

The following product is affected by this recall: Helados Mexico Minis Ice Cream Variety Packs, UPC: 6-82082-11215, Lot No. 10112023 with best by date of "MO Best By 10/11/2025."

No other Tropicale Foods products are impacted and the company has received no confirmed reports of illness. Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
