Charges laid in 2020 homicide investigation into death of Wesley Custer

Three people are charged in relation to the death of 20-year-old Wesley Custer.

On the evening of Friday August 21, 2020, Wesley Custer was brought to the Shellbrook Hospital in Shellbrook, SK, with serious injuries. He died shortly after and his death was determined to be suspicious.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continued the investigation into Wesley's death.

On May 19, 2022, Saskatchewan RCMP's Crime Reduction Team and Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team arrested Evan Ledoux on outstanding charges from Prince Albert Police Service and Ahtahkakoop RCMP. Ledoux was located in a vehicle driving on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation and arrested without incident.

Following consultation with Crown Prosecution, Evan Ledoux was arrested on May 21, 2022 at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre and charged with manslaughter (section 236(b) of the Criminal Code) in relation to the death of Wesley Custer.

Evan Ledoux is also charged by Ahtahkakoop RCMP with aggravated assault (section 268(2) of the Criminal Code), assault with a weapon (section 2679a) of the Criminal Code), possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose (section 88(2) of the Criminal Code), utter threats (section 264.1(1) of the Criminal Code), assault (section 266 of the Criminal Code) and possession of property obtained by crime (section 354(1)(A) of the Criminal Code) in relation to an assault that was reported at a residence on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on May 6, 2022. RCMP located an injured female at the residence, who was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries.

Evan Ledoux will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

On May 22, 2022, Curtis Ledoux was arrested from the Prince Albert Correctional Centre and charged with accessory after the fact to murder (section 240 of the Criminal Code) in relation to the death of Wesley Custer.

Curtis Ledoux will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

On May 25, 2022, Tyson Lachance, was arrested at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre and is charged with one count, second degree murder (section 235(1) of the Criminal Code) in relation to the death of Wesley Custer.

Tyson Lachance appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on May 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

Shellbrook RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North - Young male brought to Shellbrook Hospital identified

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North has identified the young man who was brought to the Shellbrook Hospital three days ago. He is Wesley Custer, 20 years old, originally from Denare Beach, but recently residing in the Prince Albert/Montreal Lake area.

His death is now being investigated as a homicide.

The Major Crimes Unit North is asking for the public assistance in identifying where Wesley was, what he did, who he was with and what he said during the days leading up to his death.

Anyone who has been in recent contact with Wesley Custer, or possess information regarding his recent contacts, is asked to please call Shellbrook RCMP at (306) 747-2606. The Major Crimes Unit North continues to be interested in receiving reports of suspicious activity around the Shellbrook Hospital in order to identify who brought Wesley Custer to the Shellbrook Hospital Friday night, August 21, 2020.

Yesterday evening, Friday August 21, 2020, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., a young male was brought to the Shellbrook Hospital in Shellbrook, SK, with serious injuries. The male died shortly after.

Shellbrook RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North attended the Hospital and determined the death to be suspicious.

The Major Crimes Unit is asking for the public assistance in identifying the person(s) who brought him to the Hospital.

If you have seen suspicious activity around the area of the Shellbrook Hospital yesterday evening, Friday August 21, 2020 between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., please report it immediately to police.

Suspicious activity includes persons, vehicles or events that seemed unusual or out of place.
