Fueling Talent

Five new employees are launching their careers at J.D. Irving, Limited's Transportation and Logistics Division this year, having accepted job offers before graduating from university in the spring.

All five are joining the team after previously completing Careers in Motion co-op placements with the company, a program that offers post-secondary students an engaging educational experience while preparing them for their entrance into the workforce.

Alex Kerr

Alex Kerr, from Rothesay, NB, will graduate from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton with a chemical engineering degree. She is also minoring in mathematics and will earn a Diploma in Technology, Management and Entrepreneurship.

Kerr's two co-op terms included a stint as an Operations Assistant at Sunbury and then as a Business Improvement Analyst with the Transportation and Logistics divisional team, where she continued to work part time through her final year.

"During my co-ops, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable dedication and care that JDI invests in its employees," Kerr said. "It was truly motivating to observe how the company consistently prioritizes the well-being and professional growth of its staff members, going above and beyond to foster a supportive and nurturing work environment."

Brennan Curwen

Brennan Curwen is graduating from the business program at the University of New Brunswick Saint John campus. Hailing from Moncton, NB, Curwen was an Operations Analyst at RST during his co-op term, an experience he credits with demonstrating how his degree could translate into a real-life career.

"My first impressions of Transportation and Logistics were that it was very fast-paced and dynamic," Curwen said, noting he appreciated the challenges that came with the role.

"I was constantly exposed to new opportunities to grow through the rapidly changing nature of the transportation industry."

Abigail Cramm

After completing her Bachelor of Engineering at Memorial University, Abigail Cramm is returning to NBM Railways where she worked for two co-op terms.

Originally from Lewisporte, NL, the work terms were Cramm's first exposure to J.D. Irving, Limited and its diverse career path options.

"Through my work terms, I learned that JDI is where I wanted to start my career," Cramm said. "The opportunities I was given as a student defined for me what I wanted in a full-time career, so I am excited to continue to explore this path with J.D. Irving, Limited."

Manan Patel

Manan Patel, from India, is preparing to both finish his Bachelor of Applied Management degree from the University of New Brunswick this May and join the Sunbury team full-time.

His co-op experience at Sunbury as an Operations Analyst led him to choose a career in analytics,

"The co-op with JDI gave me a good reflection on myself and an understanding of my level of knowledge and skill set," Patel said. "I learned that I thrive in fast-paced environments, and that I enjoy solving a problem and collaborating with diverse teams."

Tyler Jenkins

Tyler Jenkins, of Rothesay, NB, is coming back to the JDI team on the heels of completing three co-op terms, one with Universal Truck and Trailer and the last two with JDI Logistics. Securing a full-time position prior to graduation has eased some of the stress of the university home stretch, he said.

"The peace of mind of not having to scramble to find employment during some of the most tough months of my academic career was certainly a benefit," Jenkins said.

On the cusp of graduating from Acadia University, Jenkins said he's excited to come back to a supportive team where bringing ideas to the table is encouraged.
