Spain reaffirms its support for adhesion of North Macedonia to European Union

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha González Laya, met today with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, in yet another display of the good harmony between the two countries. The meeting was used to address bilateral affairs and the adhesion process of North Macedonia to the EU, which is fully backed by Spain.

As happened at her meeting with her North Macedonian counterpart, Bujar Osmani, back in March, Arancha González Laya offered Nikola Dimitrov Spain's support and experience in moving forward in the process, in such areas as judicial matters and the rule of law, the green agenda and the digital agenda, among others.

The minister also offered her wish to see, as soon as possible, the approval of the EU's negotiation frameworks, both with the Republic of North Macedonia and with Albania, together with the start of adhesion negotiations.

Nikola Dimitrov is accompanying the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, on a visit to Spain, during which they will meet with the President of the Government, the Speaker of the Upper House and the President of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (Spanish acronym: CEOE).
