Pennsylvania American Water Announces $2 Million Allegheny County Water System Upgrade

Project scheduled to begin in Elizabeth Borough next week

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Aug. 18, 2022) - Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to install approximately 2,800 feet of new water main in Elizabeth Borough, Allegheny County, to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The cost of these system improvements is approximately $2 million.

Pennsylvania American Water contractors will start installing a new water main along the north end of 2nd Avenue at the intersection of Lower Mill Street on Monday, Aug. 22. Work hours will be Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

While normal traffic patterns will be in place during non-project hours, the company encourages motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the project area during project hours.

Customers will be notified before the start of construction. Work outside these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed by late October 2022.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, but it also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Pennsylvania American Water's 2021 and 2022 infrastructure upgrade projects will support more than 3,700 jobs each year through our continued investments. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $373 million in 2021 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems.
